Digital Projection Funding Secured
As part of our third term, we set out to seek alternative funding to enhance all that Truro has to offer. We have managed to secure two digital projectors, flights cases and lenses. We intend to launch the projectors in November 2018 and to enhance our dark nights and bring to life a plethora of digital imagination.
We have secured the funding for this project through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) funded LEADER project.
Digital Projection Mapping for Truro
This project will enhance Truro's tourism experience
with an innovative, themed digital projection facility complementing the
existing Christmas Lights scheme and create a vibrant evening experience
throughout the year. It will involve purchasing two digital laser
projectors. This will enable us to
provide video mapping, where light is mapped onto any surface, turning common
objects of any 3D shape into interactive displays. Another way to interpret this technology is
‘spatial augmented reality’ projection, used to turn objects into a display
surface. In addition we are looking to purchase lenses, which can enhance
images and provide interesting visual effects. By purchasing two digital projectors we can include more surface area
(width) of the building and will make the overall effect, far more impressive.
The themed projections will illuminate our darker streets, enhance our beautiful buildings and add to our evening economy throughout the calendar year. It will raise the City profile. Generation millennials are the younger generation who are constantly engaged on their iphones and tablets. This image hungry generation enjoy taking images of beautiful and interesting things and in turn a light display will grab their attention, they will share on social media and a digital buzz about Truro will be created.
We will schedule in throughout the calendar year themes and events that we engage with. We have choosen which buildings to project onto and how we will create the content. Following installation we will create an amazing light attraction. We know from experience that the City of Lights draws an audience of between 20,000 to 30,000 people and 15,000 people during late night shopping, we would like to add to these occasions through digital light projection
