Truro Children's Day 2024 on Saturday 6 July

We will be bringing Children’s Day back to Truro City Centre for the seventh year, on Saturday 6 July, with lots of mostly free entertainment and activities for families to enjoy.

We will be organising spectacular mountain bike stunt shows and family fun on Lemon Quay. Walking and cycling charity Sustrans will be back with their free scooter, balance and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus their exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills. Bikes and helmets provided.

There will be have-a-go sessions in circus skills with Swamp Circus, and this year dance performances from Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts, InspirAsian Dance and Stagecoach Truro.

Children can enjoy inflatables and swing boat rides, along with family-friendly crazy golf, craft activities and stalls. Some street entertainment will be popping up across the city, plus shops and eateries will have special in-store activities and offers for families on the day.

Many activities will be free although there will be a charge for some activities. Stalls open from 9am, with activities such as with circus skills and mountain bike stunt shows starting from 10am.

As with previous years, we are encouraging Truro Businesses to join in with an in-store activity or offer to enhance the event and attract families. For example, an in-store competition, art activity, meal deal or discount. Truro businesses, to take part in Children’s Day please email the Truro BID team via: lindsey.craik@trurobid.co.uk.

Children's Day 2023

We brought Children’s Day to Truro City Centre for the sixth year, and with more, mostly free entertainment and activities than ever before!

There were spectacular mountain bike stunt shows and, new for 2023, skateboarding demos and performance parkour demos on Lemon Quay. Children could have-a-go at skateboarding, performance parkour, circus skills with Swamp Circus and dance with InspirAsian Dance, Cornwall Dance School. Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro also performed.

Walking and cycling charity Sustrans returned with their free scooter, balance and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus an exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills.

Families enjoyed crazy golf and fun craft activities, plus the Royal Cornwall Museum was on Lemon Quay giving children the chance to handle old toys from the museum and make a vintage toy. Street entertainment popped up across the city.

We were delighted to see the city centre so busy. It was great that some of Truro's shops and eateries engaged with us and joined with family friendly in-store activities and offers for the day.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part and supported Children's Day, including our sponsor Coodes Solicitor, along with all the families who came along and had a great time!

To make space for all the activities on Lemon Quay, Truro Farmers Market relocated to Boscawen St (thank you). A special thanks also to Truro City Council for enabling Truro Farmers Market to relocate for the day by funding the security officers manning the road closures.

Children's Day 2022

We organised the fifth Children's Day on Saturday 25 June and gathered together nearly 50 City Centre businesses and organisations to arrange special children’s activities for the event.

Following his appearance at Children's Day in 2019, it was great to welcome back mountain bike trials athlete Andrei Burton who performed on spectacular mountain bike stunt shows with a free runner on Lemon Quay.

There were fun stalls with lots of activities including Truro City Council’s Countryside Rangers offering wood carving and Anytime Fitness with a rowing machine and some exercise challenges. Walking and cycling charity Sustrans were running a balance bike obstacle course for younger children, plus an exciting static cycle activity for older children interested in improving their off-road bike handling skills.

Families also enjoyed free have-a-go sessions in circus skills with Swamp Circus, dance sessions with Cornwall Dance School and InspirAsian Dance, and yoga with Kids Yoga Cornwall.

Many shops and eateries across Truro had family friendly in-store activities and offers, including giveaways, competitions and meal deals.

To add to the atmosphere Swamp Circus, who performed spectacular acrobatic outdoor family shows at Children's Day in 2021, joined in this time by offering circus skills to families and performing around town. Live family-friendly music popped up around our great little city.
