Media Release: Children's Day returns to Truro on Saturday 20 June

Families can enjoy a packed programme of activities and entertainment in Truro city centre for Children’s Day on Saturday 20 June, as businesses and organisations across the city put children and young people at the heart of the day.

Now in its ninth year, Truro Business Improvement District (BID) has brought together around 30 local businesses and organisations to take part. More than 30 shops and eateries will also be joining in with family-friendly in-store activities and special offers.

On Lemon Quay there will be plenty of free entertainment and activities including the return of spectacular mountain bike stunt shows.

Children can enjoy a free bicycle obstacle course (bikes and helmets provided) and learn to ride a bike in a designated area. Older children can try out the manual bike machine for off-roading practice. New for this year, is the ‘Doctor Bike’ area, where kids can bring their bikes for repair.

There will be free have-a-go sessions in circus skills with Swamp Circus, dance with Cornwall Dance School, along with a boxing demo and chance to try boxing. Dance performances will take place from Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts, Stagecoach Performing Arts Truro, Boom Theatre and Just 4 Kids Performing Arts.

Lemon Quay will host a selection of stalls featuring art and craft activities, and games for families, along with crazy golf and an inflatable slide.

In addition to Lemon Quay, other family activities will be taking place across the city, including in Pydar Street, and a large inflatable obstacle course is planned for Boscawen Street. The regular Truro Farmers Market traders will be relocating to Boscawen Street for the day to allow more space for the family activities on Lemon Quay.

Truro’s two permanent indoor markets, Lemon Street Market and Pannier Market will be open as usual and joining in with the fun. Street entertainment, including circus performers and live music, will be popping up across the city.

Many of Truro’s shops and eateries will have family friendly in-store activities and offers, including art activities, offers, competitions, and meal deals.
Children’s Day is brought to the city by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors.

Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager said, “We are really looking forward to bringing Children’s Day back to Truro for the ninth year. We hope that families will enjoy the wide range of activities on offer across the city, and we thank all the businesses and organisations joining in. As well as being a fun celebration, Children’s Day helps to attract residents and visitors to stay longer in the city on the day.”

Coodes Solicitors Chairman, Elise Alma, added: “As a Cornish law firm at the heart of our community, we are delighted to be sponsoring Children’s Day for the fourth year in a row. It promises to be a wonderful event and as proud supporters, it’s great to see children and young people at the centre of the entertainment and activities. We very much hope that it’s a huge success and attracts families from far and wide to enjoy everything on offer in Truro.”

Children’s Day will have activities for all ages, with the main programme running from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 20 June. Stalls and many shops will open from 9am.

Many activities are free, although some activities such as the crazy golf, the inflatables and swing boats, will charge a fee.
