Media Release: Over thirty-five in-store offers and activities in Truro for Children’s Day this Saturday 20 June

Families can enjoy a packed programme of activities and entertainment in Truro city centre for Children’s Day this Saturday 20th June. 

Highlights include exciting mountain bike stunt shows, have-a-go sessions in cycling and circus skills, and dance performances on Lemon Quay. There will be family-friendly activities on Pydar Street, including giant board games. 

Truro BID have been inviting businesses to take part with in-store activities and offers. There are more than 35 exclusive family-friendly activities and offers in shops and eateries taking place across the city. 

In addition, several of Truro’s businesses and organisations will host family-friendly stalls on Lemon Quay, including Malletts Home Hardware, Harry’s Toy Chest, The Entertainer, and the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery.

Children’s Day is being brought to the city by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors. 

Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager said: “We’re always keen to involve resident businesses in our events when we can. We hope that the in-store offers and activities, along with the other elements that we’ve organised, will enable families to enjoy a wide variety of activities on the day. We’re delighted to have so many businesses taking part. A big thank you to all the businesses and organisations involved.”

The in-store activities and offers across the city from 35 businesses include free arts and crafts activities, giveaways, competitions, face painting, and discounts on food. They are listed below and published on www.visittruro.org.uk and here.

Arts, Crafts, Storytelling Activities and Character Visits

  • Barnardos - Children's Day window display, kids colouring, and a sweet for taking part!
  • Cocoa Truro, Princes Street – Their 0–6 play area is FREE for Children’s Day at this newly opened play café, plus colouring with a prize for the best entry.
  • CLEAR at 8 Cathedral Lane – Colouring, crafts and refreshments (10am to 4pm), plus appearance from Fred the Ted character!
  • Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery - Storytelling in the Myths and Legends exhibition at 11am and 2pm, plus a Mini Mythical Creature Trail with sticker prize. No booking needed.
  • Green Room Café, Hall for Cornwall (Lemon Quay) - Join Dick Whittington and his Mousehole cat for a creative pit stop; think kitty-colouring, purrrrfect painting, whiskery wordsearches and more pun-laden fairytale and feline fun!
  • Justin Roseveare Healing Centre & Zen Garden, Lemon Street Market – Free family wellbeing adventure for ages 2+ (9.30am to 5pm). Includes mindful colouring, yoga bingo, bubble breathing, and other mindfulness activities (grounding, mindful jars, visualisation, meditation, candle gazing).
  • Marks and Spencer 10am–2pm: Find Percy Pig on the ground floor for a selfie and pick up a free Percy Pig themed colouring sheet.
  • The Entertainer - Marshall from Paw Patrol around the store from 10am - 4pm.
  • Truro Community Library – Cornish legends story trail in the community garden and gift for taking part.
  • Waterstones – Mouse-themed activities including a scavenger hunt in the children's department, drawing and other fun things themed around the Mousehole Cat!

Clothing Offers 

  • New Look - Play the ‘Spin to Win’ game for money off your purchase, 11am to 3pm. 

Competitions and Giveaways

  • CLEAR at 8 Cathedral Lane – Free books for kids (plus see above).
  • Cornwall Hospice Care - Free children’s book or toy while stocks last; no purchase needed.
  • HSBC: Design your own coin to win prizes, plus free kid’s colouring sheets and chocolate.
  • Joules, Pydar Street – Free children’s colouring/ activity packs.
  • Lush, Pydar St – FREE bath bomb workshop for the first 50 children. Lush team can advise on allergies.
  • Lemon Street Market - ‘Guess how many lemons in the jar’ to win prizes (9am-5pm/ until they run out).
  • Tesco, Garras Wharf – Colouring competition with a small prize; winning artwork displayed in store. Enter in store or return by Monday 22 June.
  • Truro Sweets - Head to the store on Back Quay (next to the Cornish Oven) for free sweets or a corded wrist bracelet. Available while stocks last!
  • The Body Shop - play ‘Spin the Wheel’ for FREE, where every spin is a win! Prizes include testers and full-size items. Make a purchase in-store on the day, for an extra goody.
  • Malletts Home Hardware - Grab a leaflet from Malletts’ stall on Lemon Quay for FREE entry into a raffle to win super prizes! Plus Pokémon Trading Card Swaps Day in store!
  • Pennyworth’s Sweet Shop: First 50 customers get a gold envelope with purchase for a chance to win a £5 in-store voucher or edible paper money (not valid as payment)!
  • Specsavers - Colouring activities and a competition to design your own glasses. Prize for money off glasses and a free sight test for the child’s adult.

Face Painting and Eco Face Glitter 

  • Lemon Street Market – Free kids face painting from Funny Faces, 10am – 4pm.
  • New Look– Free kids ‘Festival Face Glitter’ perfect for the 9 to 15s who can also check their 915 brand clothing range in-store! 11am – 2pm.
  • Regatta – Free kids face painting in store. From 10am- 4pm.

Food and Drink Activities / Offers 

  • Cocoa Truro, Princes Street – Biscuit decorating workshops at 10am, 11.30am, and 1pm. £5 per child for 45 minutes. Pre-booking required: www.cocoatruro.com.
  • Café Uneeka – Little Uneeka Grazers children’s deal, 12 noon–3pm: £5 with any adult main meal (£6.50 on its own). Homemade hummus, carrot sticks, pitta, a Pips juice carton, fruit, and a mini brownie. Sit in or takeaway. Plus kids’ drinks deals, sweet treats, and colouring.
  • Cookie Queen - In-store cookie sandwich making experience at the Tinners Court shop (Vanilla Funfetti or Oreo cookie, pick your buttercream, and finish with a drizzle topping. Box included. Donation of £5 kindly requested, with 100% proceeds going to Children’s Hospice South West.
  • Fodders Expresso Bar - Free kids’ meal when purchasing an adult’s meal. Hot dog/vegetarian hot dog with/without onions OR half a sandwich with cheese, ham or jam and tortilla chips OR beans on toast, includes a drink of squash or milk.
  • Green Room Café, Hall for Cornwall – Kids' Packed Lunch Boxes for £6.50, includes a sandwich, crisps, biscuits, fruit, and juice carton. Usual salads, toasties, soup, and cakes.
  • Hotel Chocolat - Ice cream sampling between 11 – 4pm.
  • Malletts Home Hardware Cafe – Tea on the Square - Under 10's eat for £1 off the children's menu when buying any adult meal too.
  • Sole Plaice – Whippy soft-serve ice cream served in the newly decorated upstairs area and discounted for Children’s Day. £2.50 (tub) or £3 (cone), with free toppings!
  • The Cake House, Pydar Mews – Free child’s ‘Old School Cake’ with an adult takeaway cake purchase.
  • Zafiros – Kids under 10 can eat for £1! For every qualifying adult main purchased, one child can dine from the children’s menu for just £1.

All offers and activities for Children’s Day are correct at time of publishing, and two of these activities should be pre-booked (biscuit decorating at Cocoa Truro and Kids Aerial Taster Sessions at Divine Pole & Aerial).

The regular Truro Farmers Market traders will be relocating to Boscawen Street to allow more space for the family activities on Lemon Quay. A large inflatable obstacle course is planned for Boscawen Street, alongside the market.

Truro’s indoor markets, Lemon Street Market and Pannier Market, will be open as usual. Due to the activity on Boscawen Street and Pydar Street, there will be traffic-free shopping streets across the city centre. Road closures will be in place across the city from 5am to 7pm and from 6am to 6pm on Pydar Street.
